2022 Predictions? Mix One Part Rearview Mirror and Two Parts Crystal Ball

As the year draws to a close, many of us alternate between reflection and speculation as we think about our businesses.

I trust most will agree that 2021 was a year unlike any other in recent memory for reasons we can all rattle off in our sleep. However, 2021 will soon be a memory and it is most important to focus on the future. To do this, we can point to a few trends that should provide guidance as to what we can anticipate as we move into 2022.

The second half of the year has shown the market is making a dramatic comeback. This is evidenced by the rise in inquiries and the pace of new product orders — driven primarily by corporate, casino gaming, medical/healthcare, higher education and government sectors. We attribute this to pent-up demand from the early pandemic lockdown months when projects in progress, and those being planned, were largely put on hold. I anticipate this “catch up” trend will continue well into 2022.

IP is becoming mainstream in consultant designs. This is most welcome as it is helping to convert the still wary or uninformed integrators and end-users away from matrix signal distribution to AVoIP solutions (our own ZyPer4K, XS, XR and ZyPerUHD encoders and decoders as well as those from other manufacturers). While I believe our (and other) training programs have been instrumental in assisting the design folks in their decision making and analysis of appropriate applications, the real proof has been in the pudding. Installations of IP based video transport continue to climb and there are an abundance of success stories in every vertical of every shape and size to point to. We have always been committed to helping advance the technology by supporting these professionals with our training programs, webinars, SIGNAL Partner program and knowledgeable “actual humans” who will answer their questions when they call. This will continue!

Supply chain issues are slowly being resolved. Let’s face it, the key word here is ‘slowly’ and no doubt about it, 100% product availability is key to making it possible to get projects and businesses back on track. We are proud that our planning efforts continue to enable us to ship our AVoIP products in just a matter of a couple of weeks.

Considering the above upbeat feedback from InfoComm and the market at large, 2022 holds the potential for stellar growth throughout our industry — a well-deserved payout for all the work everyone has put in over the recent challenging period. As always, we’re here to help you navigate the new year and support you in any way that we can.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for a wonderful New Year,

Bob Michaels

Special ‘degree’ in SDVoE boosts Finnish University’s AV upgrade
November 24, 2021

Aalto University, Finland’s highly regarded multidisciplinary technology, business and art/design school, is deep into phase three of a major AV system upgrade designed to enhance the learning and work environments for all buildings on its Otaniemi campus, located near Helsinki. The overall project is highly focused on SDVoE.

Aalto selected ZeeVee’s SDVoE AVoIP signal distribution system, which makes it possible to distribute and switch uncompressed 720p, 1080p HD, Ultra HD and 4K resolution content with near zero latency, as well as audio and control, via off-the-shelf 10Gb Ethernet switches. Link to the entire story.

Breaking Through the Clutter at Industry Events (ZeeVee at InfoComm)
November 29, 2021

ZeeVee is a pioneer in AV over IP technology, the transmission of AV content over open-standard Internet Protocol networks. But the privately held company had limited market recognition. For its upcoming exhibition at the 2018 InfoComm trade show, with a key product introduction planned, our client needed to attract attention to its back of show floor booth.

With the theme of the “flexibility” of its AVoIP SDVoE technology, we set out to visually illustrate their key product differentiator by hiring a contortionist to do in-booth shows every hour. Following her gymnastic display of flexibility, ZeeVee’s marketing manager took the microphone for a tech demonstration of AV flexibility. Here is the link to the entire story.

Semtech (SMTC) collaborates with ZeeVee to attract more audiences to the Tennessee State Museum
November 26, 2021

Semtech recently partnered with ZeeVee to attract more audiences to the Tennessee State Museum by leveraging BlueRiver technology. This partnership also relies on ZeeVee’s ZyPer4K encoders and decoders for delivering uncompressed 4K at virtually zero latency.

The BlueRiver platform and ZyPer4K encoders and decoders are based on the Software Defined Video over Ethernet (SDVoE) technology that distributes and manages AV signals. Previously, Semtech collaborated with ZeeVee to develop a premium gaming environment at the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas with the help of the BlueRiver technology and ZyPer4K encoders and decoders. Thus, the recent move strengthened their partnership. Link to the entire story.

Spotlight – Berk Akinci

Recently, ZeeVee’s ZyPer4K-XS small footprint SDVoE encoders and decoders were awarded InfoComm’s Best of Show 2021 by AVTechnology Magazine. A key contributing factor to this win was the work of Berk Akinci, ZeeVee’s principal engineer. Berk is responsible for designing boards and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for ZeeVee’s ZyPer4K product line, which includes the ZyPer4K-XS.

“We have a wonderful team here at ZeeVee. Our team works smarter, rather than harder, to consistently deliver new features and products for our customers,” said Berk. “We also have a great work-life balance, which is usually tricky for a busy company, but we do it well.”

Berk enjoys the creativity that he’s allowed to bring into his role – especially when he starts with a single idea and works to bring it to life. However, the hardware he helps design takes time – usually years. Berk’s biggest accomplishment, he says, is yet to come.

“From an outsider’s perspective, the pro AV industry can seem very unassuming. People often imagine AV integration as bringing home a TV, plugging in a streaming box and it’s ready to use within a few minutes. Behind the scenes, we see the challenges and the ugly side every day. Pro AV integrators do a lot more than plug two devices together; they often need to find new combinations of hardware depending on the specific needs of the end-user. It’s our team that’s responsible for creating products that make the entire ecosystem work,” said Berk.

Berk lives in Tewksbury, Mass., with his wife, Abiche, and three children, Kiara (13) and twins Lara and Kaan (10). In his free time, Berk helps his children fuel their imagination using his 3D printers and computer numerical control (CNC) machine. He enjoys showing them that they can create some surprising things if they give it a little time and effort. Berk also likes to swim and go on bike rides with the whole family.
