Case History Feature: The Park, Rapid City, South Dakota

Introduction

Located in Rapid City, South Dakota, The Park is an upscale gathering spot offering dining, live entertainment, a sports bar and casino gaming. Since its grand opening in November 2022, visitors have enjoyed both lavish and casual settings with attractive Las Vegas-style design features and décor throughout, along with innovative cuisine, hand-crafted cocktails and an expansive craft beer selection.

From the moment they see the large golden tree just inside the front entrance and the circular shimmering gold structure over the restaurant’s bar, guests know right away that they are in for a great experience.

The Challenge

The Park sprang up from an outdoor shopping mall in historic Baken Park (707 Mountain View Road) soon after the site was purchased by MG Oil. The new owners had an ambitious vision for a one-of-a-kind destination that offered something for everyone with the creation of a 6,000-square foot, multi-use entertainment and dining facility with four distinct venues – The Park restaurant, 707 Sports Bar, 707 Casino and 707 Nightlife.

A key element to providing this elevated experience was the creation of a state-of-the-art AV system to deliver an array of content from must-watch games to on-site events as well as digital signage with information on special events and promotional offers. For help with the system’s design and installation,  the facility’s management turned to the integration team at Haggerty’s Music of Rapid City, led by Project Manager Kelly Combs.

“This project was very special for several reasons,” said Combs. “First, we were able to work on a large-scale creative project with exciting elements  that firms of our size don’t always get the opportunity to work on. Second, it allowed us to have an impact on a major venue that raises the bar for entertainment venues in our community.”

Haggerty's Integrated ProAV Solution

Working closely with The Park personnel, Haggerty’s met the challenge with an ambitious system design and installation. The project includes a 40-foot Refresh LED wall in 707 Nightlife that gives the audience a front-row perspective for the many music and comedy acts that perform throughout the year. Eighteen 65-inch LG monitors that are suspended over the 40-foot oval-shaped bar in The Park restaurant afford all patrons a great view of the game. A couple of two-by-two NEC video walls hang above a see-through fireplace in the restaurant as well, illustrating how AV can complement architectural flourishes to create a distinctive and engaging visual element. The 707 Sports Bar features five suspended LG 65-inch monitors flanked by two 85-inch monitors to catch all the sports action on a given day. Beyond this, nearly 60 LG monitors are present throughout all areas of the facility, including monitors in the green rooms, which assist visiting performers by providing live video from the stage and seating areas that cues them for when they are due onstage.

To deliver pristine full 4K 4:4:4 video content throughout the premises, Haggerty’s chose ZeeVee ZyPer 4K AV over IP (AVoIP) encoders and decoders to service 58 endpoints over a 40Gb network. Sources, including DirecTV and on-site video cameras, feed content to two Netgear M4300 switches. System signal switching, management and maintenance is handled by a Q-SYS control platform, working in conjunction with a ZeeVee ZyPer Management Platform, which enables the quick creation of multiview presentations via a simple touch panel user interface.

The ZeeVee Difference

The AVoIP signal distribution solution was chosen for its seamless performance and flexibility—enabling cost-effective system futureproofing that will enable the system to be scaled quickly without needing to replace an expensive matrix switch. Other reasons ZeeVee was selected for this project included Kelly’s team’s familiarity with the company’s gear from other local projects and its reputation for high quality gear and commitment to technical support during deployments.

“The Park, which was highly anticipated as it was being built, has proven to be a multi-faceted dining and entertainment venue that the community was more than ready for,” said Brianne Thompson, event coordinator, The Park. “In addition to a gorgeous setting, the flexible AV system is easy for all staffers from wait staff to bartenders and hosts to control and provide visitors with an engaging experience.”

It is worth noting that several members of the firm’s staff remain actively engaged with The Park in a variety of roles including serving as sound engineers for the facility’s many live events. If you ever find yourself in Rapid City, be sure to stop by The Park for a good time with exceptional food and drink, exciting gaming, memorable experiences and an AV system that raises the standard for dining and entertainment venues.
