Wisconsin’s Oneida Casino Deals a Winning Hand with AV over IP Upgrade
The Oneida Casino, located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is the state’s premier gaming entertainment destination with a variety of slots, table games, poker, bingo and a sportsbook. It’s also the official casino of the Green Bay Packers.
In November 2021, casino management undertook a renovation of the sportsbook, which included creating a state-of-the-art AV system. For this project, Oneida tapped Scott Tomashek of Camera Corner Connecting Point (CCCP), Green Bay, to do the work but within a tight timeframe, requiring that the venue be ready in two months for the upcoming Super Bowl.
Challenge
The main challenge was the need to deliver diverse sporting event content simultaneously to video walls and to the dozens of individual monitors located throughout the facility. In addition, casino staffers needed to be able to switch and route different games and races during the course of the day or evening so that the top contests, as well as digital signage with promotional messages, could be displayed on any and all of the system’s monitors at a moment’s notice. Lastly, the short deadline meant the right system components needed to be identified, received and deployed quickly.
The system design called for four LCD display video walls of Samsung 55-inch narrow bezel displays in 4x4, 5x3, 4x2 and 3x2 configurations, as well as to more than 80 individual Sony and Samsung monitors, ranging in size from 55- to 75-inches, to keep sports fans and wagerers on top of all the action.
Solution
Tomashek and his team specified a SDVoE signal distribution solution for this project to deliver superior uncompressed 4K content with near zero latency to the video walls and monitors. To accomplish this, ZeeVee ZyPer4K SDVoE encoders and decoders were selected to support the systems’ 100 endpoints alongside a Netgear M4300-96X managed video switch for a 10Gb network. This gear was paired up with a Crestron VC-4-PC-3 control system processor and XPanel for seamless and reliable system operation.
The deployment of SDVoE and ZeeVee’s ZyPer4K encoders and decoders eliminated the need for an expensive 128x128 standard matrix. Going forward, the facility will be able to add any number of additional inputs and outputs as its AV content distribution needs grow.
Another major benefit of the ZyPer4K gear is the innovative software solution provided by the ZyPer Management Platform. It enables the Oneida Casino staff to do advanced window processing, such as creating ‘multiviews’ on individual monitors, as well as displaying one channel across multiple monitors, all without the need for separate video processors. This represented considerable savings in hardware and installation costs.
Add to this, ZeeVee was able to meet the tight timeline for delivery – no small feat in a period of widely reported supply chain disruptions.
“We chose ZeeVee at the time because they had product available for immediate delivery that checked all the required boxes for this ambitious undertaking,” said Tomashek. “In addition, ZeeVee’s staff was very responsive to our requests while we were designing the system, as well as during the installation and commissioning phases of the project.”
In February 2022, Super Bowl LVI was played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. featuring the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Patrons of the Oneida Casino were able to view the close match winding up with a Rams 23 to 20 win.
The project was so successful and well received that CCCP was asked back in 2023 to update the casino’s Mason Street location. Tomashek and his team deployed ZeeVee UHD Series AVoIP encoders and decoders at 60 endpoints to deliver live sports and digital signage content to dozens of monitors.
CCCP was tapped a third time to update the casino’s Irene Moore Activity Center Bingo Hall. It installed dozens of ZeeVee ZyPerUHD encoders and decoders to support 98 endpoints. Diverse content delivered throughout the facility includes current numbers in play, video of the ball selection, digital signage content from players in the rack, as well as a cable TV feed for local events.
